Bolivia obtiene $us 7,6 MM por exportación de electricidad en un año
Bolivia achieved a historic milestone by initiating its first-ever electricity exports to Argentina via the Juana Azurduy de Padilla transmission line. This interconnection represents a strategic shift from mere sales to a broader energy exchange capability, allowing Bolivia to import power during deficits while exporting surpluses. Consequently, the project transforms national energy security by diversifying supply sources and enhancing regional integration through shared infrastructure. The economic and logistical framework required significant investment to build the necessary transmission networks and substations across both borders. Although export volumes and revenues have fluctuated, demonstrating the variable nature of cross-border energy trade, the foundational capacity has been established. This volatility highlights the importance of flexible grid management in bilateral agreements, where demand patterns dictate the economic viability of continuous exports rather than fixed guarantees. This development is highly relevant to open data initiatives because it necessitates transparent, accessible information regarding energy flows, infrastructure investments, and bilateral trade metrics. Openly sharing data on these interconnections allows researchers and citizens to analyze energy sovereignty, infrastructure efficiency, and geopolitical dependencies. Such transparency fosters accountability in state-owned enterprises and supports evidence-based policymaking for future energy expansions and regional cooperation efforts.
