Precenso próximo a finalizar; Censo online en abril y presencial en mayo
The National Statistics Institute (INE) is finalizing the pre-census verification of more than 1.4 million addresses in preparation for the 2023 Census. This foundational step ensures the accuracy of spatial data by linking physical locations with utility meter numbers, enabling a hybrid participation model in which households can respond either digitally or through traditional door-to-door canvassing. The census will be carried out in two phases: an online period in April, followed by a field operation in May involving approximately 7,000 census takers. The process is designed to be efficient for those who register digitally, while ensuring comprehensive coverage for others. The data collected focuses on demographic and housing characteristics, deliberately excluding financial information to distinguish this effort from other household surveys. This article is highly relevant to open data, as census data forms the essential spatial framework for public policy, determining the placement of schools, healthcare facilities, and social services. By providing precise, granular information about population distribution and living conditions, it enables evidence-based decision-making for both the government and the private sector, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively based on verified, high-quality statistical evidence.
