Open data is emerging as a fundamental tool that extends beyond the governmental sphere to foster social collaboration, accountability, and innovation. By guaranteeing free access to public information, this initiative empowers citizens and organizations to develop innovative solutions to critical challenges in health, education, and security, thereby transforming everyday life and strengthening democracy through a better-informed society. To structure this effort, Mexico has developed the "Let's Open Mexico" strategy, which emerged from an extensive participatory process. This process included inter-institutional technical collaboration, regional consultations, and broad engagement with civil society, incorporating hundreds of comments to ensure transparency and legitimacy. The draft National Open Data Policy is now ready for formal presentation, representing a bold step toward a regulatory framework that aligns institutional openness with the real needs of the population. The relevance of this article for the open data movement lies in the systematic integration of transparency into a comprehensive state policy. It is not merely about publishing information, but about establishing an ecosystem that ensures unrestricted use of data, thereby optimizing its social impact. This approach promotes the creation of a national digital memory and strengthens trust between the government and citizens, positioning data as an essential common good for the country's future development.
