A recent report from the Center for Global Development reveals that Argentina ranks as the second most vulnerable country to a global financial crisis, behind Sri Lanka. This high vulnerability is primarily attributed to the combination of structural fiscal deficits, high debt owed to multilateral organizations, and persistent inflationary pressure. These factors have significantly weakened the country’s capacity to absorb external shocks, placing it in a critical situation that requires a substantial reduction in the debt burden to return to economic prosperity. The relevance of this study for the open data community lies in the quality, transparency, and availability of the underlying data sources. The analysis is built on public data published by institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, and national governments themselves. This demonstrates how open access to robust and comparable macroeconomic information enables the generation of reliable risk indicators. Without the standardization and dissemination of these datasets, think tanks would be unable to conduct accurate international comparisons or provide early warnings about systemic risks, underscoring the value of open data for informed decision-making and fiscal transparency. Comparing the current situation with that of 2019, a widespread deterioration in emerging and developing economies is evident. The proportion of countries with external financing needs exceeding 100% of GDP has tripled, and most nations now exhibit considerably higher fiscal deficits and public debt ratios. This landscape indicates that the scars left by the pandemic and recent geopolitical shocks have exacerbated global financial fragility. The upward trend in risk indicators suggests that the economic stability of many countries has been compromised, requiring urgent interventions and up-to-date data to monitor the evolution of the crisis.
