Pakistan Data Protection Bill pending since 2018

Pakistan s government has started efforts to approve a bill aimed at protecting the personal data of millions of people in the country, amid concerns over the lack of cross-border data transfers between the two nations, the BBC has learned. However, it is not set in stone, but it will be tabled in August for the first time. () But How could the bill be approved by the Pakistani government when it comes to cybersecurity, security and privacy issues are being discussed by international stakeholders in their bid to tackle disagreements on the data protection bill, and is expected to be passed by parliament next month. The government is preparing for its early agreement with international firms, as it looks set to take steps towards passing its draft bill in September, in an attempt to stop rising tensions over sensitive data gatherings in recent years - and it has been given the go-ahead for an earlier deadline for it to pass ahead of the next July. Here, we speak to the prime minister, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, who says they are trying to meet international organisations to discuss the issue.
