Population aging in Europe, and specifically in the province of Tarragona, creates an urgent need to restructure long-term care services. In light of the projected significant increase in the older population, the ICARE project, led by the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), proposes an artificial intelligence-based solution to preserve the independent living of vulnerable individuals who live alone. This non-invasive system employs environmental sensors and mobile applications to monitor vital signs and daily routines without compromising privacy, enabling health and social care professionals to make decisions based on continuous data. The relevance of this article to open data lies in the information infrastructure it generates. By centralizing the collection of activity and health data on a smart platform, a continuous flow of information is created that facilitates the early prevention of diseases and the personalization of care. However, this also raises crucial questions about data governance: who has access to the data, how it is anonymized to protect user privacy, and how it can be integrated into public health systems in an ethical and transparent manner. The implementation of this technology aims to reduce unwanted loneliness and alleviate pressure on residential care facilities, promoting a more efficient and accessible telecare model. Collaboration among academic, healthcare, and social institutions underscores the importance of developing technological tools that prioritize citizen well-being. This approach highlights the need for rigorous management of health and social care data, ensuring that technological innovation truly serves to improve the quality of life of the aging population.
