Eliminan Diputados siete organismos autónomos
Mexico’s legislative majority has approved a constitutional reform that eliminates seven autonomous regulatory bodies, centralizing their functions under government ministries. This move aims to reduce costs and strengthen executive control, although opponents argue that it undermines democratic checks and balances by concentrating power within the ruling party. The dissolution of the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information, and Personal Data Protection poses a direct threat to citizens’ right to privacy. By removing an independent entity that safeguards data and ensures government transparency, the state risks weakening accountability mechanisms essential for protecting personal information from unauthorized use. This development is critical to open data because it compromises the institutional framework that guarantees public access to information. Without autonomous oversight, the reliability of published data diminishes, potentially hindering research and civil society oversight. Consequently, the transparency and integrity of Mexico’s open data ecosystems face significant structural degradation.
