J&K to make ‘RTI Portal’ fully operational by Dec 10
The Jammu and Kashmir government is launching a digital portal to streamline the Right to Information application process. This initiative allows citizens to submit requests, track status, and receive responses electronically, eliminating the need for physical visits to government offices. By centralizing data management, the platform aims to create a comprehensive database of all applications and appeals, ensuring that public information officers can respond more swiftly and efficiently. The project emphasizes transparency, accountability, and user-friendly governance through this digital shift. It establishes a structured hierarchy of nodal officers at administrative, directorate, and district levels to oversee the onboarding of relevant officials. Training and login credentials have been provided to ensure a smooth transition, with specific deadlines set for full operationalization. This systematic approach seeks to remove bureaucratic hurdles and enhance the overall effectiveness of governance within the union territory. This development is highly relevant to open data as it demonstrates how digital infrastructure can significantly improve public access to government information. By making RTI requests more transparent and accessible, the portal fosters greater civic engagement and trust in public institutions. It serves as a model for using technology to bridge the gap between citizens and state entities, highlighting the critical role of digital tools in promoting openness and efficient administrative practices in modern governance.
