Aportes del Grupo Oaxaca - El Imparcial de Oaxaca

The text highlights the fundamental role of the Oaxaca Group and its institutional allies in consolidating the right to transparency in Mexico. This historic collective was instrumental in breaking with the culture of governmental opacity, achieving the approval of pioneering laws and the creation of guaranteeing bodies that ensured access to public information. This achievement represents a crucial advance in accountability, although the challenge remains of effectively socializing and protecting the right to know within a complex political context. On the other hand, the crisis of medicine shortages emerges as a health emergency requiring sustainable solutions and multi-sectoral collaboration. This problem, exacerbated by failures in the supply chain, deficiencies in public management, and lack of planning, disproportionately affects patients with chronic diseases, putting their health at risk and increasing the burden on healthcare systems. The absence of essential medicines underscores the need for more transparent and efficient management in procurement and distribution processes. This reflection is relevant to open data because transparency is the foundation for identifying and resolving structural problems such as shortages. Without open data on contracts, inventories, and bidding processes, it is impossible to audit the efficiency of public spending or guarantee citizens' rights. Therefore, preserving and strengthening access-to-information mechanisms is essential to combat corruption and ensure essential public services.
