Te presentamos la nueva Reforma del Reglamento de Extranjería
Spain’s new immigration regulation aims to facilitate the legal integration of migrants by streamlining administrative procedures and expanding pathways to regularization. By reducing the required periods of residence and unifying the concept of “arraigo” (rootedness), the legislation seeks to provide greater predictability and legal certainty for applicants. This represents a paradigm shift toward a more flexible, human rights–based approach to migration management, enabling access to the labor market from the outset of immigration procedures. The reform introduces significant improvements in three key areas: family, work, and education. Family reunification is facilitated by broadening cohabitation criteria and extending the age limit for dependents. In the labor sphere, bureaucratic barriers to hiring are removed, and workers’ rights—including those of students—are better protected. These measures aim to harmonize immigration treatment and reduce situations of irregularity, promoting more effective and equitable social inclusion. This update is particularly relevant to the field of open data, as it transforms a traditionally opaque sector into one with standardized and predictable procedures. By clearly defining the conditions for access, renewal, and permits, the reform creates the opportunity to structure and publish normalized data on migration flows and regularization processes. This enables civil society, researchers, and oversight bodies to access comparable and verifiable information, fostering transparency and evidence-based analysis of the state’s migration policy.
