This article demonstrates the critical role of open data in promoting institutional transparency and accountability within higher education. By utilizing information obtained through a Freedom of Information Request, the publication made detailed academic performance metrics publicly available. This process highlights how accessible government and university data can empower stakeholders, such as prospective students and researchers, to analyze educational trends and institutional effectiveness without relying solely on official communications. The analysis reveals significant disparities in student attainment across various disciplines and year levels, with Physics and English showing the highest overall performance while foundation years and specific modern foreign languages lagged behind. These findings underscore the importance of contextualizing academic data, as factors like module type and student numbers heavily influence outcomes. Understanding these variations allows for a more nuanced evaluation of academic standards and support systems across different departments. Ultimately, this case illustrates that open data is not merely about statistics but about fostering informed discourse regarding educational quality. By scrutinizing module-specific grades and dissertation results, the community can identify areas needing improvement and celebrate successful pedagogical practices. This transparency encourages evidence-based decision-making and holds institutions accountable for delivering consistent educational experiences, reinforcing the value of data accessibility in modern society.
