Finanzas y datos abiertos, así avanza su implementación en Colombia

Colombia is advancing the regulation of open finance through a draft decree led by the Financial Regulation Unit (URF). This regulatory framework aims to establish the basic rules for the exchange of financial data, defining participants, system governance, and technical standards. The process is currently in an initial phase of reviewing public comments, with the goal of implementing these regulations in the first half of the year, thereby integrating the issue into the country’s regulatory agenda. The success of this ecosystem depends on fundamental principles such as security, trust, and standardization. The URF emphasizes that these pillars are essential for managing the new risks that arise from financial innovation, ensuring that the intensive use of data improves service delivery and promotes financial well-being. By establishing clear regulatory “rails,” the initiative seeks to facilitate information exchanges by entities and individuals, expanding access to financial products in a secure and efficient manner. This initiative is relevant to open data because it aims to transform the culture of financial data consumption in Colombia. By empowering consumers with control over their information and facilitating its exchange, the initiative promotes competition and financial inclusion. Complementarily, work is underway on the immediate payments ecosystem (Bre-B) through the National Payments Council, whose objective is to encourage digital payments and significantly reduce the use of cash, creating a more transparent and modern environment for economic transactions.
