Necesidad de un sistema educativo superior que le hable al país

Colombia’s higher education system fails to prepare students for the knowledge economy due to fragmented governance and rigid structures. Rather than forming a cohesive system, the country is characterized by isolated institutions and outdated bureaucratic processes that disconnect academia from industry. This misalignment prevents talent from thriving in the present and future, regardless of the population’s inherent potential, highlighting a critical failure in aligning educational outputs with modern economic needs. The article identifies systemic barriers such as inflexible career pathways, the marginalization of technical training, and a lack of interoperability among different educational levels. Despite existing frameworks, pathways between technical, technological, and university education remain blocked, and the recognition of prior learning is largely ineffective. This disconnect leaves many learners—particularly those from marginalized communities—unable to accumulate credentials flexibly, while the system relies on obsolete data for decision-making rather than responsive, outcome-based quality assurance. For open data, this narrative underscores the urgent need for interoperable, real-time information systems to bridge the gap between education and labor markets. Implementing digital credential frameworks and leveraging advanced analytics can enable informed decision-making for both students and employers. Ultimately, transforming higher education into a fair, flexible, and interconnected ecosystem requires moving beyond new policies to establish data-driven governance that ensures relevance, employability, and genuine social mobility through shared, accessible information.
