Zonda, nevadas y temperatura: así será el novedoso portal del pronóstico de Mendoza
The General Irrigation Department of Mendoza will soon launch the Hydroclimatic Portal, a tool developed by CONICET scientists that democratizes access to high-quality meteorological and water-related information from high mountain regions. This public platform enables civil society and public officials to monitor in real time critical phenomena such as snowfall, the Zonda wind, and the status of water resources, transforming complex academic data into understandable inputs for decision-making. The platform integrates ten-day regional forecasts with continuous monitoring of the hydrological year, highlighting the detection of atmospheric rivers that influence precipitation. By combining these variables, the system not only improves the accuracy of early warnings about extreme events but also facilitates historical comparisons of snow accumulation, providing an essential comprehensive view for adaptive management in the face of structural drought. This initiative is crucial for the open data movement, as it exemplifies how transparency in the dissemination of scientific information can empower citizens and optimize the management of scarce resources. By offering a single, reliable, and accessible source of hydroclimatic data, it reduces information asymmetry, fostering a more collaborative, efficient, and evidence-based approach to water management grounded in shared technical knowledge.
