Argentina tiene más votantes que Lugo y Orense y puede definir las elecciones de Galicia

The article highlights a critical shift in Galician elections, where the foreign vote has become the decisive factor due to an unprecedented high proportion of residents abroad. This demographic reality challenges traditional political dynamics, as the substantial number of expatriates, particularly in Argentina, significantly outweighs the electorate in several local provinces. Consequently, the outcome of these elections no longer depends solely on domestic voters but is heavily influenced by the diaspora’s participation rates and preferences. The elimination of the "voto rogado" requirement, which previously hindered overseas voting, has led to a surge in potential turnout from the diaspora. Political parties have intensified their campaigns to engage these voters, recognizing that their support can tip the balance in a tightly contested race. This strategic pivot underscores how administrative changes to voting accessibility can immediately reshape electoral landscapes, making international participation a central theme in campaign rhetoric and policy appeals. This situation is highly relevant to open data because it demonstrates how transparent, accessible electoral statistics directly impact democratic engagement and political strategy. The visibility of voting barriers and their removal illustrates the power of data in identifying marginalized voter groups and driving policy reforms. Furthermore, it shows how open access to demographic and census data enables parties to target specific constituencies, emphasizing the need for accurate, publicly available information to ensure equitable representation and informed civic participation in modern elections.
