Desaparición del INAI: así votaron los diputados poblanos
A recent legislative vote sought to eliminate key autonomous bodies, including the National Institute for Transparency (INAI), the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), and the Federal Economic Competition Commission (Cofece). This move, driven by the ruling party and its allies, aims to dismantle institutions that ensure government accountability and protect citizens’ rights to access public information and safeguard their personal data. The INAI plays a crucial role in guaranteeing transparency in the management of public resources and in resolving disputes when these rights are violated. By enabling citizens to monitor government actions and protect their personal data, the institute fosters a more informed and accountable society. Its elimination represents a significant departure from the principles of open governance. This development is highly relevant to open data, as it directly threatens the infrastructure that enables public access to information. Eliminating such autonomous bodies undermines the mechanisms necessary for transparency and citizen oversight. Consequently, it risks increasing opacity in government operations, making it more difficult for the public to scrutinize decisions and hold authorities accountable, thereby weakening the foundations of an open data ecosystem.
