Igualdad sustantiva: Avalan registro para proteger a mujeres
Mexico’s Senate unanimously approved the creation of the National Registry of Protection Measures and Orders, a centralized system that integrates data on gender-based violence from various government agencies. This mechanism aims to ensure the traceability and effectiveness of protections granted to women, girls, and children, facilitating coordination among the three levels of government and enabling the verification of violence histories to enable a more efficient and preventive response. In parallel, the obligation to immediately evict aggressors from the marital home was legalized, and pay equality was established as a legislative mandate. These reforms seek to strengthen victims’ safety by prioritizing their integrity over property ownership, while addressing a structural root of inequality, marking a significant advance in the institutionalization of substantive equality and reinforced state protection against all forms of violence. The relevance of this article to the field of open data lies in the management of sensitive information. Although the registry classifies the data as confidential, its existence implies the need to develop rigorous standards for data interoperability and governance. This raises crucial challenges regarding how to balance the institutional transparency necessary to evaluate public policies with the strict protection of victims’ privacy, setting an important precedent for the handling of high-impact social government databases.
